Dr. Murray J. Penner, MD, FRCSC is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia and the Head of the Regional Department of Orthopaedics, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority & Providence Health Care. He is a Past- President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (COFAS). His full-time academic subspecialty practice is focused on adult orthopaedic foot and ankle reconstruction with particular interests in total ankle replacement and complex deformity correction. He is a co-designer of 5 total ankle replacement systems and has co-founded 2 orthopaedic device companies, holding over 20 patents in the field. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers, as well as numerous scientific articles, books and book chapters. Together with co-investigators, he has won the AOFAS Roger Mann Award for Outstanding Clinical Study 4 times, with 9 nominations since 2007. He has also won the IFFAS Takakura Prize for Clinical Research and the IFFAS Research Award for Excellence, with 3 nominations since 2014. He has been invited as a visiting professor and lecturer to numerous distinguished institutions and conferences around the world.
