TOTAL HIP & KNEE REPLACEMENT

Joint Replacement Care

Joint replacement surgery can reduce pain, improve joint function, and restore mobility for people living with arthritis or joint damage. Our centre provides surgical care using a coordinated multidisciplinary team that supports patients through surgery and recovery.

We welcome patients from throughout British Columbia and across Canada who are seeking timely access to experienced joint replacement specialists. Our team regularly supports patients travelling from outside the province and helps coordinate care to make the process as smooth as possible.

Our surgical centre holds Exemplary Standing accreditation from Accreditation Canada, reflecting our commitment to safe, high-quality surgical care.

From consultation through recovery, patients receive coordinated care focused on safety and strong clinical outcomes.

Our Approach to Patient Care

Joint replacement surgery involves more than the procedure itself. Our team works with patients before and after surgery to ensure they understand their treatment plan and recovery process. Patients are supported by nurses, surgical coordinators, and other members of the care team who help guide preparation, surgery, and discharge planning. This coordinated approach helps ensure patients are informed, prepared, and supported throughout their care.

Total Knee Replacement

We offer both unicompartmental (partial) and total knee replacement procedures, allowing treatment to be tailored to the specific pattern of arthritis and each patient’s functional goals.

Our multidisciplinary team includes fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeons supported by experienced nurses, athletic therapists, and surgical coordinators who guide patients through consultation, preparation, and recovery.

Knee replacement surgery aims to reduce pain, improve joint stability and function, and help patients return to daily activities.

Total Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement is an effective treatment for patients experiencing persistent hip pain, arthritis, stiffness, or reduced mobility that interferes with everyday activities.

Our program is led by fellowship-trained surgeons with extensive expertise in hip replacement surgery. They work closely with specialized nurses and surgical coordinators who support patients through every stage of care.

Patients receive coordinated care from consultation through recovery.

BEFORE SURGERY

  • Consultation and assessment with the surgical team

  • Education and preparation for surgery

  • Coordination of scheduling and surgical planning

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Care provided by an experienced surgical and nursing team

  • Procedure performed in our fully accredited surgical centre

  • Recovery in our post-anesthesia care unit

OVERNIGHT SURGERY

  • All joint replacement patients stay one night in the centre’s overnight unit. During this time, our nursing team closely monitors recovery, assists with early mobility, and ensures patients are comfortable and ready to safely return home the following day.

  • Many patients are able to stand and begin walking shortly after surgery, with recovery plans tailored to their individual needs.

Recovery and Returning to Activity

Recovery timelines vary for each individual, but most patients experience meaningful improvements in pain and mobility within the first several weeks after surgery.

Our team provides guidance to support a safe recovery and a gradual return to normal daily activities, walking, and recreation.

Is Joint Replacement Surgery Right for Me?

Joint replacement may be considered for patients who experience:

  • Persistent joint pain that limits walking or daily activities

  • Arthritis or joint damage confirmed through medical assessment

  • Reduced mobility despite non-surgical treatments

  • Pain that interferes with sleep or quality of life

A consultation with one of our surgeons can help determine whether joint replacement is an appropriate option.

Commitment to Quality and Safety

Patient safety and quality of care guide all aspects of our surgical services. Clinical practices, surgical standards, and care processes are designed to support safe procedures and strong patient outcomes.
