Dr. Gilbart completed his medical school training and his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Toronto in 2002. Dr. Gilbart completed a Masters of Education degree through the Surgeon Scientist Program at the University of Toronto. He then completed his Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada fellowship examinations and became a Fellow of the Royal College in 2002.

Dr. Gilbart then pursued 2 years of subspecialty orthopedic training, including fellowships in shoulder reconstruction and arthroscopic sports medicine surgery. Dr. Gilbart trained at the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland, at Harvard University Shoulder Service in Boston, MA, and one year at the University of Pittsburgh Sports Medicine Program in Pittsburgh, PA. These provided a subspecialty expertise in orthopaedic disorders of the shoulder, elbow, knee and hip.

Dr. Gilbart is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, with appointments to the Division of Athletic Injuries and Arthroscopy and the Division of Upper Extremity Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Gilbart is a member of the Canadian Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Canadian Association of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Gilbart’s clinical practice is based at the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre at the University of British Columbia and his operative practice is based at the Vancouver Hospital – University of British Columbia site as well as the Cambie Surgery Centre. Dr. Gilbart is a consultant for the University of British Columbia Athletic Teams, as well as other amateur teams including the Vancouver Giants hockey team. His practice is dedicated to complex disorders of the shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow, with a focus on arthroscopic joint reconstruction.
